“Live It Up” At Chesapeake Jubilee’s 29th Year
Event Scheduled May 19-22 at City Park in Chesapeake

(Chesapeake, VA) – Happy Birthday Chesapeake! That’s how it began in 1982 when Chesapeake Mayor Marion Whitehurst suggested that this relatively young city celebrate its 20th anniversary with a birthday party.

And so the Chesapeake Jubilee was born.

It’s the best deal in town. The cost for admission is $2 and the concerts are free.
In 2011, the ever popular Jubilee continues to generate excitement in Hampton Roads. As in the past, this year’s musical headliners are a diverse lineup, including country star Gretchen Wilson, platinum winning, critically acclaimed 10,000 Maniacs, and reggae legends The Wailers.

The Chesapeake Jubilee is known for its food, and there is plenty of it. Get ready for the scrumptious Chesapeake Kiwanis Shrimp Fest, and the Annual BBQ Cook Off, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. Also on hand will be plenty of “festival food”—everything from funnel cakes to turkey legs.

Fireworks are an integral part of the Jubilee, and Zambelli Fireworks Internationale promises to put on a spectacular fireworks display reaching new creative heights.

Amusements of America, the largest traveling amusement park in the world, will be on site with rides and games guaranteed to thrill. Individual tickets will be sold for the rides and games. The Children Today/ Leaders Tomorrow (CTLT) Kids Corner is a fun free zone for children and families, with hands on crafts, face painting, musicians, jugglers and other entertainers. The Chesapeake 4-H livestock show and sale have always been an integral part of the Jubilee, and the tradition continues.

Event Chairman Chesapeake Undersheriff Jim O’Sullivan says the Chesapeake Jubilee is a true citywide effort. “As always, the show couldn’t go on without the help of volunteers, community groups, city staff, and the police, fire, and sheriff’s departments.”

Events:

Chesapeake Kiwanis Shrimp Fest: 4:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 19
4-H Livestock Show and Sale, begins 8 a.m., Thursday, May 19
